Getting to Plettenberg

Plettenberg is situated at the eastern end of the Garden Route approximately 600km (400miles) from Cape Town and 210km (130miles) from Port Elizabeth. It lies within easy reach of the more commercial towns of Knysna and George. For further clarification refer to the map information page.

Various route options exist for getting to Plettenberg Bay - fly drive is recommended to give the greatest flexibility during your stay. Cars can be pre-booked and hired from airports. Traffic in South Africa drives on the left, as in the UK, and all the main roads are tarmac. The three main transfer options are as follows:

Option 1

Fly to Johannesburg International Airport. Take an internal flight to George (George is located west of Plettenberg and is approximately a one hour drive).

This is the second quickest option with greater flexibility of flights.

Option 2

Fly to Johannesburg International Airport. Take an internal flight to Port Elizabeth. (Port Elizabeth is located east of Plettenberg and is approximately a two hour drive).

This option may be considered if option 1 proves problematic or as a way of seeing more of the coastline, flying into George and out of Port Elizabeth or vice versa.

Option 3

Fly to Cape Town, enjoy a few days stay and then drive up the Garden Route to Plettenberg. The drive can be done leisurely in two days (alternatively leave Cape Town on arrival and enjoy it on your return).

This option is ideal for those with the time available to enjoy both the Cape and the Garden Route.

This place is spectacular and exquisite. It has the most amazing views and is brilliantly equipped with only the best.
